STAIR NOSING WITH LUMINOUS BAND
ENHANCED STEP-EDGE VISIBILITY FOR LOW-LIGHT ENVIRONMENTS
The NAKA HI-STEP SLIM CK NAP50CK is a premium aluminium stair nosing system incorporating photoluminescent bands and an anti-slip vinyl insert.
Designed to improve step-edge visibility in low-light environments, it provides clear stairway guidance while maintaining a slim, contemporary architectural profile.
The luminous bands absorb ambient light and emit an afterglow when surrounding lighting is reduced, enhancing step-edge identification without requiring electrical power.
Combining practical functionality, slip-resistant properties and architectural aesthetics, the system is particularly suitable for auditoriums, cinemas, theatres, concert halls, lecture theatres, museums, galleries and other commercial or public environments where lighting is intentionally subdued.

Luminous Performance & Visibility
Manufacturer-Reported Afterglow Performance
Visible Performance
| Elapsed Time | Reported Afterglow Luminance |
|---|---|
| 60 minutes later (*1) | 17–21 mcd/m² |
| 5 hours or more (*2) | 3 mcd/m² |
*1 Manufacturer test condition: the luminous band is kept without light for 24 hours, then illuminated at 200 lx for 20 minutes. The luminance reading is taken after 60 minutes.
*2 Time for luminance to reach 3 mcd/m² under the above conditions.
About the JIS Standard of Luminous Safety Sign
The supplied manufacturer information cites a JIS 9107 afterglow luminance reference of 7 mcd/m² after 60 minutes. The reported performance of HI-Step SLIM CK is above this reference.
Degree of Luminance and Brightness
The manufacturer identifies 3 mcd/m² as its minimum luminance for emergency escape guidance.
| Luminance (mcd/m²) | Perception with Some Dark Adaptation |
|---|---|
| 5 or more | Extremely bright, clearly observed |
| 3 | Observe things’ outlines |
| 2 | Blurring, somewhat observed |
| 1 or less | Hardly observed |
